Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband face scrutiny as their firm reports a significant financial decline amid charity investigation
Bedford: So, it turns out that Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband Colin are in a bit of hot water. Their company, Club Nook Ltd, just reported a drop in net assets of over £330,000. Ouch!
This comes after a pretty tough report from the Charity Commission about how they’ve been managing things related to Captain Tom’s legacy. The firm only has £149 left in net assets now, which is a huge drop from £336,300 last year.
They owe more than £67,000 to creditors, which is a big jump from just over £6,500 before. The couple started Club Nook after Captain Tom became famous for his fundraising efforts during the pandemic.
Remember when he did those laps in his garden for his 100th birthday? That raised a ton of money for NHS Charities Together. But now, the Charity Commission is looking into how the Ingram-Moores have been running things.
They’ve been accused of some serious mismanagement, including misleading people about where donations from book sales were going. Apparently, they got nearly £1.5 million for a book deal, but none of that went to the foundation.
Hannah and Colin are pushing back, saying the inquiry is unfair and that they’ve never taken any public donations for themselves. They want everyone to know they’re committed to keeping Captain Tom’s spirit alive and doing good.
After Captain Tom passed away in February 2021, his family kept the fundraising going, but now they’re facing some tough questions about their financial practices.
They insist there’s been no wrongdoing and that they’re all about transparency. It’s a tricky situation, and it’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.
