The CCM Saturday livestock event saw a vibrant turnout with over 300 animals sold, showcasing local vendors and impressive prices.
Skipton: The CCM Saturday livestock opener was quite the event! Over 300 head of livestock were up for grabs, and the atmosphere was buzzing. Local vendors teamed up with folks from South Yorkshire, Lancashire, and the Fylde Coast, making it a real community affair.
Prices were impressive too. For instance, 65 bull stirks averaged around £846, with a top price of £1,450 for a Limousin from Nigel Garth in Addingham. Stuart Barrett from Summerbridge also had some great sales, with bulls hitting £1,280 and £1,120. And let’s not forget the dairy-bred British Blue bulls from Robert Falshaw, which sold for £1,210!
Lea Partners from Sheffield topped the Charolais bulls at £1,220, while Harry Raw from Eastburn sold black and white bulls for £840. The average selling price for steer stirks was £933, and heifer stirks averaged £964. Dairy-bred Blue steers were particularly popular, with some selling for as much as £1,390.
Angus steers also did well, with prices reaching £1,360. Suckler-bred steers from GS&SI Bartlett in Blackpool even sold for £1,500! The event also featured some Highland cows and a few sheep and goats, which added to the variety.
Looking ahead, the next livestock collective is set for Saturday, February 8, which will also include an Agri-Trader Auction. Plus, there’s a working sheepdog sale coming up on January 29, featuring 40 dogs of various training levels. And on February 2, CCM will host its third annual ‘Next Generation’ event for young people interested in agriculture. It’s shaping up to be an exciting time!
