Warrington: The council’s cabinet will meet next Monday. They will discuss plans to improve bus services using £3.8 million from the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

These plans include keeping bus fares low. Adult single journeys will stay at £2, and under 22s will pay just £1.

These low fares started in 2022 as part of the Better by Bus program. They have been popular and will continue until at least the end of 2025, even with the national fare cap increase.

The council is also looking into keeping these low fares beyond 2026. They want to ensure affordable travel for everyone.

During the meeting, the cabinet will also discuss submitting Warrington’s BSIP plan for 2025-26 to the Government.

This plan includes more improvements for the next year, such as:

  • Protecting essential bus services and increasing service frequencies.
  • Completing the A49 Winwick Road bus priority scheme to improve journey times.
  • Bringing back real-time passenger information and enhancing apps and bus stop info.
  • Studying improvements needed at Warrington Bus Interchange to address its condition.

Cllr Hans Mundry, the council leader, emphasized the importance of reliable bus services. They connect people to jobs, education, and essential services.

He added that these plans aim to reduce congestion and improve air quality in Warrington.

Since 2022, Warrington has received over £22 million in BSIP funding. This funding helps ensure the town’s new electric buses come with top-notch services.

For the latest funding round, Warrington has been awarded £3.8 million as part of a larger £148 million investment for better bus services in the northwest.
