Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca expressed concern over Noni Madueke’s performance after his goal in the win against Wolves, highlighting areas for improvement.
London: Enzo Maresca had some thoughts about Noni Madueke after Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Wolves. He mentioned that after scoring, Madueke seemed to stop playing.
Madueke netted Chelsea’s third goal in the 64th minute, nudging a header from Trevoh Chalobah over the line. He was subbed off in the 84th minute for Tyrique George.
Maresca, who previously managed Leicester, had left Madueke out of the squad for their Boxing Day loss to Fulham. He pointed out that while Madueke has potential, he needs to keep pushing after scoring.
“He can improve in the last third,” Maresca said. “After he scored, he probably stopped playing. We need to work on that.”
He emphasized the importance of always striving for more, even after scoring. The team is looking to help players improve, and Maresca noted that Madueke might have been a bit tired.
After the win, Chelsea is now just 10 points behind league leaders Liverpool and back in the top four. Maresca was pleased with the result, especially after a tough stretch without a win.
“It was crucial to get the win,” he said. “The first half was fantastic. We created chances, but we need to regain our confidence.”
He added that they controlled the second half and could have scored even more. Overall, it was a much-needed boost for the team.
