Exciting news! Chilmington Green Secondary School is on track to open this September, with construction moving ahead on its interior.
Construction kicked off last February, and it’s been almost two years since the plans got the green light. The school’s exterior is nearly finished, and it’s all set to open just off the A28 Ashford Road.
This school is part of a big project that includes thousands of homes, primary schools, shops, and even healthcare facilities. It’s designed to accommodate 1,140 students, and the excitement is building as the interior starts to take shape.
The United Learning Academy Trust will run the school, which will have 32 classrooms and some cool facilities like labs, a drama studio, and art rooms. They’re also planning to make some spaces available for community use after school hours, which is pretty neat.
Even though the school is still under construction, it’s set to open with a full Year 7 class this September. Right now, 270 students are learning at a temporary spot nearby.
As the school grows, it will add a new year group each year, eventually serving students aged 11 to 18. There were some worries about traffic access, but they’re working on making it safer by closing off some routes and creating a new road.
The lead company behind the development is also supposed to fund some important road upgrades, but there’s been some back-and-forth about that. An inspector will look into whether they can back out of their funding commitments next month.
So, it’s an exciting time for Ashford as this new school prepares to open its doors!
