Worcester: The city is buzzing with excitement as the Chinese New Year celebrations return on February 2. Organized by the Worcester Chinese Association and Engage with China, this event promises a day full of fun.

It’s happening at the Museum of Royal Worcester from 11 am to 3 pm. This will be the third year the museum hosts the festivities, and they’re ready to make it special.

Families can enjoy free activities like tea tasting and a traditional tea ceremony. Plus, don’t miss the Lion Dance at 12:30 pm on Severn Street, which will be closed for the performance.

There’s more! Guo Yue will perform Chinese music on the flute, and Kui de Tang will showcase some martial arts. And guess what? Pom Pom the Giant Panda will be there to greet everyone!

Throughout the day, there will be arts and crafts inspired by Chinese traditions. You can try your hand at calligraphy, paper cutting, and origami. If you’re feeling creative, you can also paint ceramic shapes in the museum’s studio, but remember to book in advance.

Frankie Tsang, chair of the Chinese association, expressed excitement about welcoming the community. He’s been organizing these celebrations for 25 years, aiming to bridge cultures and share Chinese heritage.

Kate Travers, the museum director, shared how the team has enjoyed learning about the tea ceremony to offer visitors a taste of Chinese culture. There will be plenty of activities for families to dive into.

H-J Colston-Inge from Engage with China highlighted how this celebration is a fantastic way to connect with Chinese traditions through fun activities for everyone.
