Chippenham is considering new parking rules to ease congestion and improve safety around Abbeyfield School. Community feedback is welcome.
Chippenham: So, there’s some buzz about new parking restrictions near Abbeyfield School. The council is looking to put in place no waiting or loading rules at the school entrance. This is part of a bigger plan to tackle traffic issues in the area.
The idea is to stop folks from parking at the junction of the school entrance and Stanley Lane. It’s all about making things safer for kids and pedestrians, especially during those hectic pick-up and drop-off times.
Wiltshire Council is asking for feedback on this plan until February 10. They’ve received quite a few requests from locals who are worried about the traffic jams and safety risks around the school.
Abbeyfield School has been proactive, encouraging parents to use the nearby Stanley Park Sports Ground car park instead of parking on the road. They even backed a previous request for parking restrictions on Stanley Lane.
Last October, parents raised concerns about the chaos during pick-up times. Despite the school’s reminders, many still park on the main road, causing serious traffic issues and making it dangerous for kids leaving school.
Some parents arrive way too early, taking up parking spots when there are plenty available. This leads to long waits to get out of the school car park, and it’s a bit of a race for drivers trying to avoid getting stuck.
In response, Wiltshire Council is pushing for these restrictions to enhance safety for everyone, including pedestrians and cyclists. They’re hoping to get the community’s input on this important issue.
