Chippenham’s London Road will close for a £2 million flooding scheme, improving sewer capacity and reducing flood risks.
Chippenham: Wessex Water started a project to fix sewer flooding in Long Close. This has been a long-standing issue for residents.
Last summer, London Road closed for over a month for this work. The project continued in Long Close after that.
On Monday, February 17, London Road will close again near The Pack Horse pub. This is for work on two manholes needed to finish the project.
The road will stay closed until Friday, February 21. After that, three-way traffic lights will be set up from March 10 to March 14.
A letter from Wessex Water informed residents about the flooding issues. Long Close and Black Cross have faced problems during heavy rain.
The project aims to prevent these issues by replacing sewers and building a new storm tank. This tank will be 10 meters deep and help manage excess water.
Once finished, the tank will hold over 250,000 liters of extra water, reducing the risk of flooding.
