St Mark’s Church in Wrexham is getting a makeover to serve as a community hub for various activities and support services
Wrexham: St Mark’s Church is undergoing a big change. It’s being revamped into a lively hub for sports, drama, lunch clubs, and more. The Welsh Government’s Community Facilities Programme is making this possible with some solid funding.
Thanks to this support, the church is getting a new roof, heating, accessible toilets, and even a kitchen upgrade. These changes will help St Mark’s expand its activities while still hosting important services like the Trussell Trust Foodbank and a clothing exchange.
Reverend Canon Jonathan Smith, who’s leading the project, shared how St Mark’s has always been a key part of life in Caia Park. They run events for kids and families, holiday clubs, and even welcome local schools. Plus, the church hosts the Brownies and supports a clothing exchange.
He mentioned how this funding has really transformed the building. Now, they can do even more to bring people together and make everyone feel at home.
Recently, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice Jane Hutt dropped by to check out the renovations. She praised St Mark’s as a great example of community-led projects that create spaces for people to connect and access services.
She also expressed her gratitude to the volunteers and organizations that made this happen, saying she’s proud to support initiatives that truly benefit local communities.
