Civic leaders have greenlit a £1.14 billion plan to enhance roads and schools, promising significant improvements across the region.
Hampshire: Big news for the community! Civic leaders have just approved a massive £1.14 billion capital programme aimed at improving roads and schools. This is a game-changer for everyone.
On January 20, Cllr Kristy North, who heads universal services, gave the thumbs up for this ambitious plan. It’s set to roll out over three years, with a big chunk going to highways and transport.
Out of the total budget, about 75% is earmarked for roads and transport projects. The rest will go towards property, recreation, and environmental efforts. It’s a well-rounded approach to community needs.
Funding comes from a mix of external resources and local contributions. This means they’re not just relying on one source, which is smart. The plan includes over 90 highway projects and improvements to six schools.
One highlight is the M27 Junction 10 project, which is getting a budget boost to support new homes and jobs in Welborne Garden Village. Plus, there’s a new Botley Bypass and a replacement footbridge in Havant on the way.
For schools, they’re focusing on re-roofing and thermal upgrades. Four schools will see improvements, and there’s a budget set aside for energy efficiency upgrades across council buildings.
They’re also investing in parks and recreation, with funds for nature reserves and trails. It’s all about making the area more enjoyable for everyone.
While some projects have been cut or had their budgets reduced, the overall plan is looking solid. This year’s approach is all about transparency, which is a win for the community.
Patrick Blogg, the director of universal services, believes this new method will help with better planning and clarity moving forward. It’s an exciting time for Hampshire!
