A report highlights the need to close Boxford GP surgery due to its poor condition and staff challenges, impacting local healthcare access.
Boxford: A report has come out suggesting that the Boxford GP surgery might close. It’s mainly because the building is in bad shape and the NHS is struggling financially.
On Wednesday, the county council’s health committee will chat about this potential closure. The surgery is part of the Hadleigh Boxford Practice Group, and they say it’s just not viable anymore.
The building needs a lot of work to meet modern standards, and with the NHS budget being tight, it’s tough to keep two practices running. Right now, they only have one GP working four mornings a week.
If they decide to close, patients would have to go to the Hadleigh surgery instead. This would affect nearly 1,500 residents in Boxford and over 16,000 when you include nearby areas.
Some staff have reported feeling unsafe working alone, and there have been moments when help was urgently needed. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
Residents have also voiced concerns about getting to Hadleigh, but the practice is looking into better transport options. After the meeting, they’ll send their closure application to the Integrated Care Board for a final decision.
