Police have named the four victims of the Colchester crash, all Essex University students
Colchester: A tragic crash occurred early Saturday morning. Four students were in a car that crashed into Dusty’s second-hand shop around 4:40 AM.
The victims were Makyle Bailey, 22, Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 21, Anthony Hibbert, 24, and Daljang Wol, 22. All were studying at Essex University.
The crash prompted a large emergency response. Police closed Magdalen Street while they investigated the scene.
Witnesses reported that the car was loaded into a wooden crate. A crane then lifted the crate onto a truck.
Structural engineers worked throughout the day and night to ensure Dusty’s shop was safe.
Magdalen Street reopened on Sunday. People left flowers at the crash site, with one note simply asking, “Why?”
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper expressed condolences to the victims’ families. He mentioned that specialist officers are supporting them during this tough time.
Hooper added that the Serious Collision Investigation Unit is looking into the crash. So far, they believe no other vehicles were involved.
He thanked the emergency services and the community for their support. If anyone has information about the incident, they are encouraged to reach out.
