Torbay is launching a community initiative to provide warm spaces for residents during the chilly winter months, ensuring no one is left out in the cold
Torbay: A new initiative is kicking off in Torbay to help folks stay warm this winter. It’s all about community support, and it’s really heartwarming to see.
There are eight venues across Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham, offering 22 sessions each week. So, if you’re feeling the chill, there’s a cozy spot waiting for you.
The council is using funds from the Household Support Fund to make this happen, partnering with local organizations to run these warm spaces.
These sessions will last between two to five-and-a-half hours and will not only provide warmth but also a chance to socialize, enjoy some food, and get support, like help with pension credit applications.
Cllr Hayley Tranter from the council mentioned that many people are feeling the financial strain this winter. They want to make sure no one has to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table.
Tracey Cabache from Torbay Communities emphasized the importance of these warm spaces for vulnerable residents. She encouraged everyone to take advantage of these offerings and not suffer in silence.
The warm sessions will run until March, so there’s plenty of time to drop by and enjoy the hospitality.
If you’re curious about the venues, they include places like the Torbay Community Café and Help Hub in Torquay, which will be open from Tuesday to Friday.
In Paignton, the Haven at Gerston Christian Centre will welcome visitors on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. And in Brixham, YES Brixham at The Edge will be open several days a week.
