Residents in Bannau Brycheiniog are taking matters into their own hands to improve broadband access for their community
Dyffryn Crawnon: The folks in this charming community near Llangynidr have been running their own broadband service for a while now. You see, the big providers just couldn’t deliver reliable and affordable internet to many of the remote homes and farms around here.
As their network started to show its age, the community realized they were stuck waiting for upgrades that just weren’t coming. It was a bit of a letdown, especially since having good internet is so important these days.
But instead of just waiting around, the residents decided to roll up their sleeves and tackle the issue head-on. They looked to another remote community in the national park for inspiration and got to work.
Teaming up with Broadband 4 Wales Limited, they’ve come up with a smart, affordable way to bring ultrafast internet to their area. This is a game-changer for everyone!
Kathy Mason from the Dyffryn Broadband Association shared her excitement, saying the project will really help keep their rural community vibrant and resilient. It’s all about providing reliable and affordable broadband that everyone can count on.
She also mentioned how important this is for kids and young people, giving them access to educational resources and social connections. Plus, it’ll help older folks get the healthcare services they need, especially with remote care and emergency alerts.
And let’s not forget about the local businesses and farms! This project is crucial for their sustainability too. Kathy expressed gratitude to the Welsh Government and the National Lottery for their support, which made this all possible.
