A 62-year-old man, Haydn Morgan, tragically died in a flat fire on Bluebell Drive in Chepstow. Emergency services responded, but were unfortunately unable to save him.
Haydn lived alone and was turning 63 soon. His dog Gypsie, his best friend, died last year.
Emergency services responded to the fire. Police, fire, and ambulance workers arrived before noon. They tried to save Haydn, but he died at the scene.
Gwent Police reported the fire on Bluebell Drive around 12 pm on January 29. Officers assisted at the scene, along with the fire service and ambulance. His death is unexplained.
The fire service stated they were called at 11:53 on January 29 to a first-floor flat fire in Chepstow. Firefighters fought the fire outside before entering the flat with breathing gear and hoses. Ladders helped them reach high places, and they cleared the smoke with ventilation.
After the news broke, tributes poured in. Many wrote, “RIP Mogy,” saying he would be missed. He grew up in Sedbury, had three brothers and one sister, and frequented the Two Brewers pub.
“Mogy” worked on the Severn Crossing and always greeted people kindly. Andrew Morgan, Haydn’s youngest brother, said Haydn always waved hello. Haydn survived a heart attack in Blackpool with friends, proving himself a fighter.
Haydn’s family issued a statement. His full name was Haydn William Morgan, but everyone knew him as Mogy. He lived on Bluebell Drive, formerly in Sedbury, and the fire in his flat took his life on January 29.
Mogy had four siblings: Andrew, John, Kieth, and Kim. He owned Gypsie, his dog. He was a loving man who greeted everyone he met, speaking softly with a kind heart. Mogy loved to laugh and wear silly hats and wigs.
Denise cared for Mogy, and they had a special bond. The family thanks the emergency services for their response to the fire that day.
Others called his death heart-breaking, describing him as a legend and a gentleman.
