Cheshire: The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is really making waves after moving to Sci-Tech Daresbury. They’re seeing more certified renewable installations than ever before.

Since starting in 2008, MCS has set the bar for small-scale renewable energy tech like solar panels and wind turbines. Their mission? To ensure quality and protect consumers investing in green solutions.

With the UK pushing for net zero, the small-scale renewables sector is on the rise. In fact, 2024 is shaping up to be a record year for MCS with installations flying off the charts.

To keep up with this demand, MCS is revamping its operations. They’re rolling out changes in 2025 to make everything clearer and fairer for everyone involved.

Since moving from London to Cheshire in 2018, MCS has grown from just two employees to a whopping 68. Most of the new hires are locals, including fresh graduates and apprentices.

This makes MCS a fantastic employer for young talent in the North West. They’re also committed to boosting the local economy by working with nearby suppliers.

On top of that, MCS is going global! They’ve recently launched a second product certification body in Shanghai, which is a big deal.

Being close to major airports has really helped them connect with international partners. Ian Rippin, the CEO, says that Sci-Tech Daresbury has been a game-changer for their growth.

He believes the innovative culture at MCS fits perfectly with the environment at Sci-Tech Daresbury, helping them create meaningful careers in renewable energy.

As they grow, MCS will need more space, but they’re not planning to leave anytime soon. They’re also set to expand their workforce in the next 18 months, adding a new helpdesk team and more technical assessors.

John Leake from Sci-Tech Daresbury is thrilled with MCS’s progress. He loves seeing them collaborate with other organizations on campus and create jobs for the local community.
