Compassionate Inverclyde is making waves by helping folks connect and combat loneliness in the community
Greenock: Compassionate Inverclyde is doing some amazing work. Founded by Alison Bunce, who even got a British Empire Medal, this charity is all about helping people connect.
They focus on those coming home from the hospital and tackle social isolation head-on. Since 2018, their hub at St John’s Episcopal Church has been a cozy spot for food and friendly chats.
Take Graham Kennedy, a 72-year-old local. He started visiting the hub alone and quickly made friends. Now, he and his buddies, Thomas and Benny, meet up every week to catch up.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, thanks to volunteers like Jessie Kelly. She took over running the hub after being inspired by Alison. Jessie loves how friendly the place is and says it’s grown a lot since Covid.
About 30 people drop by each week, enjoying the chance to meet friends and share stories. Compassionate Inverclyde has really made a difference, even earning international recognition.
Jessie beams with pride for Alison, calling her an inspiration. The charity has also launched initiatives like ‘back home boxes’ for hospital patients and a program where volunteers sit with those nearing the end of life.
If you’re in the area, the hub is open every Tuesday from 11am to 1pm at St John’s Episcopal Church hall. Everyone is welcome to join in!
