Piers Corbyn and others are facing charges after a protest in London turned chaotic, leading to multiple arrests and public order offences.
London: Recently, a protest in South London got a bit out of hand, and now four people are facing charges. Among them is Piers Corbyn, who happens to be Jeremy Corbyn’s brother. They were all part of a Palestine solidarity protest that took place over the weekend.
Alongside Piers, two other young folks from Brockley, Tessa Roe-Stanton and Starr Thomas, both 20, and Christian Adair, 23, are also in trouble. They’ve been charged with various public order offences.
Things escalated during the protest, with three people charged for assaulting an emergency worker and obstructing police. It seems like the situation got pretty tense.
Interestingly, two older gentlemen, aged 75 and 73, showed up for voluntary interviews with the police. Many believe they were Jeremy Corbyn and Labour MP John McDonnell. They were let go but are still under investigation.
In total, nine people were charged and are set to appear in court soon. After the protest, 25 others were released on bail. The police are taking this seriously, with Commander Adam Slonecki stating that they’re reviewing footage to identify more individuals involved.
Thankfully, no officers were seriously hurt, but there were some incidents where officers were spat at and one was physically assaulted. The police are providing support to those affected.
It’s a developing story, and it’ll be interesting to see how it unfolds in the coming days.
