A director of Cottage Inn in Kingswinford has been taken to court for serious hygiene breaches found during an inspection
Kingswinford: So, there’s been quite a stir at the Cottage Inn. Samuel Dainter, the director, found himself in hot water after council inspectors dropped by. They discovered some pretty grim conditions, like dirt, mouse activity, and staff not being trained properly on food safety.
Turns out, the place wasn’t even registered correctly for food prep and distribution. Dainter, who’s 32 and lives on Ragees Road, pleaded guilty to six charges related to food safety regulations at Dudley Magistrates Court.
This all kicked off after someone spotted a mouse at the pub, which led to an investigation by Dudley Council back in October 2023. The court didn’t hold back, slapping him with a £320 victim surcharge and a total fine of £1,820 for not keeping up with hygiene standards.
Councillor James Clinton from Dudley Council made it clear that they take these matters seriously. He said it’s a reminder that they won’t hesitate to act against those who neglect their responsibilities in food safety. He also thanked the council officers for their hard work in bringing this case to court.
