Torridge District Council has started construction on a new Operational Services Centre, enhancing waste management and community resources.
Torridge: The council has begun building a new Operational Services Centre. This centre will be the main hub for waste and recycling teams.
It will provide office space for employees and include vehicle workshops. There will also be parking for the council’s fleet of vehicles.
The project aims to be finished by the end of the year. On January 29, councillors and local schoolchildren celebrated with a turf-cutting ceremony.
Devon Contractors, a local company, is handling the construction. The new centre will benefit the community in several ways.
It will offer educational resources for local schoolchildren and an environmental education pond. The project will also maintain the Drovers Trail and improve cycle links.
Councillor Doug Bushby expressed gratitude to everyone involved. He highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young people.
Councillor Chris Leather noted the need for a modern site. The current facilities are outdated and inefficient, impacting service quality.
Nigel Whelan from Devon Contractors shared excitement about the project. He emphasized their commitment to quality construction and community service.
