Glasgow: Creative Scotland is stepping up to support some fantastic initiatives in the city. They’re backing projects that really aim to connect people and foster a sense of community through culture.

One standout project is called ‘Motherhood,’ created by Marie-Claire Lacey. It’s inspired by her own journey into motherhood and is all about helping new mums find their creative voice.

Marie-Claire has teamed up with local groups like Govanhill Baths and The Glasgow Women’s Library to make this happen. She also started MUMS, which are creative sessions for new mothers to come together and share their experiences.

She mentioned how engaging in creative activities helped her process the changes after giving birth. With funding from Creative Scotland, she’s been able to create a space for other women to do the same.

Alongside MUMS, there’s an 18-month project in the works that will dive into the postpartum experience through autobiographical storytelling.

Another cool initiative is from Friends of Glasgow Royal Infirmary. They’re planning a year of lunchtime concerts that celebrate the hospital’s rich history and bring live music to its original Victorian entrance hall.

Arthur Doyle from the hospital shared how adding live music has transformed the atmosphere, making it a much more welcoming place compared to the Covid era.

These projects are part of a larger funding effort, with 72 grants totaling over £1.3 million going to creative practitioners across Scotland. Paul Burns from Creative Scotland highlighted how these initiatives will help people engage with Scotland’s unique cultural identity.
