After a house fire in Langdon Hills, crews emphasize the need for working smoke alarms on every level of your home
Langdon Hills: So, there was this fire at a semi-detached house on Acorn Place early Sunday morning. It all kicked off around 6:14 AM, and two fire crews from Basildon rushed over.
According to Watch Manager Rob Fossett, the occupant heard a loud bang and found a serious fire on the first floor. She quickly grabbed her two cats and called 999. Talk about a close call!
The fire started in the airing cupboard, and while the crews managed to put it out, the whole place ended up with a lot of smoke damage. It’s a real reminder of how crucial it is to have working smoke alarms on every level of your home.
There was a smoke alarm downstairs, but the one upstairs didn’t go off, which meant the occupant didn’t get an early warning. That’s why it’s super important to test your smoke alarms regularly—at least once a month!
Next Friday, the fire crews will be back in the area to offer fire safety advice and check smoke alarms. The occupant did suffer some burns on her arms, but thankfully, the crews provided first aid before handing her over to the ambulance service.
By 7:14 AM, the fire was completely out, and they’ve labeled the cause as accidental. Just goes to show how important it is to stay safe!
