Bradford: Ferando ‘Frank’ Barrett, who was 86, passed away on December 11 after a brief illness. His funeral is set for noon today at Sunbridge Road Mission.

Frank was a well-known figure in the cricket community. His son, John, shared that his dad was a big cricket fan and made a significant impact on the game.

He was a legend at Daisy Hill Cricket Club and even served as president of Windhill and Daisy Hill Cricket Club. They’ve planned a special tribute for him at the funeral.

John mentioned that they’ll be giving Frank a cricket bat salute, which is a fitting way to honor such a great man. Many current and former players are expected to attend.

Frank moved from Jamaica to Bradford in 1959 and played cricket for over 40 years. He was known for being a talented all-rounder, excelling as both a bowler and batsman.

He started his cricket journey with Allerton in the Bradford Central League before joining Daisy Hill Meths over 55 years ago. Frank always had a passion for cricket and cared deeply for his club.

As president and trustee, he worked hard to ensure the merged club would thrive and continue to support cricket for future generations.

John recalled how his dad mentored many young players, guiding them away from trouble and helping them grow. Many of those young lads are now doing well in life.

Frank introduced John to cricket at a young age, and now his own family is involved in the sport too. It’s a legacy that would have made him proud.

Even in his later years, when he faced vision challenges, Frank had a keen understanding of the game. He always knew what was happening on the field.

Frank leaves behind his wife Uda, whom he was married to for over 60 years, along with his daughter Jennifer, son John, and three grandchildren.
