Elevation Performance Academy won an award and are now recognized as the best dance school in the south-east. The National Entertainment Awards presented them with this honor. Kelly Robinson started the school six years ago, in 2019, and Coral Ironside is now a principal alongside Kelly.

Kelly didn’t anticipate such immense success; her initial goal was to offer opportunities to children in east London. The academy conducts its classes at Eastbrook School, situated on Dagenham Road. Besides the academy’s win, three solo dancers associated with the school also entered awards.

Social media voting played a crucial role in determining the finalists, and EPA secured its place among them. The regional final was held on January 26 at Grays’ Civic Hall.

Although the soloists didn’t win their respective awards that night, the students experienced a moment of disappointment. This feeling quickly shifted when the academy won the ceremony’s biggest award, presented last.

The academy will perform at the Indigo at the O2 and has also secured a performance opportunity in Las Vegas. Kelly described the buzzer system used on stage, where winners pushed it to reveal either a red or gold outcome.

A gold result signified the chance to perform in Las Vegas. Kelly likened it to “like Britain’s Got Talent.” Upon pushing the button, theirs turned gold, confirming their win and invitation to Las Vegas. Now, the academy, a small dance school, is fundraising to make the trip possible.

EPA provides instruction to students ranging from three-year-olds to adults, offering a diverse range of dance styles. These include tap, ballet, street, and acrobatics, alongside singing and drama classes. Some students dedicate five days a week to dance, while others participate in introductory baby ballet sessions.

Kelly described the past year as a “rollercoaster,” marked by staff and student transitions. Securing this win provided a much-needed boost, validating all the hard work invested. She emphasized that they don’t typically seek awards, but this recognition feels rewarding.

The students are currently filled with excitement and have already begun working diligently. This award sets a positive tone for 2025, and EPA has many plans for the year ahead. The win has invigorated everyone involved.
