Exciting news! Darlington Jobcentre is launching an apprenticeship support hub to help job seekers find opportunities and gain valuable skills.
Darlington: The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is hosting a cool event at the Jobcentre on February 5, from 10am to 1pm. It’s all about apprenticeships!
Anyone looking for an apprenticeship, no matter your age or experience, is welcome to join. Just reach out to your local Jobcentre Plus work coach to grab a spot.
This initiative is part of a bigger plan to help folks find financial stability through work. Lisa Purcell from the DWP shared that apprenticeships are a great way for people and businesses to thrive in today’s job market.
She mentioned that these programs mix hands-on experience with classroom learning, giving you a chance to earn while you learn. It’s a win-win!
The DWP wants to show that apprenticeships can be just as good as going to university. You get recognized qualifications and real-world experience without piling up student debt.
Lisa also pointed out that the experience you gain makes you super employable and ready for whatever comes next. For businesses, it’s a smart way to build a skilled workforce that fits their needs.
Plus, companies can save on hiring costs and boost productivity by training their own apprentices. The DWP believes that as industries change, apprenticeships will play a key role in closing the skills gap.
Mark your calendars! There’s another job fair at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington on February 13, from 10am to 2pm. It’s a great chance for job seekers to connect with employers.
This event, in partnership with Darlington Borough Council, will feature companies looking for apprentices and those starting their annual apprenticeship programs across various fields.
On top of all this, the DWP has shared some good news about the job market in County Durham and Darlington. Recent stats show a drop in unemployment and a steady rise in job opportunities leading up to January 2025.
County Durham’s unemployment rate is now at 4.1%, while Darlington is even lower at 3.7%. Things are looking up!
