A Darlington mother shares her belief that her daughter’s tragic death was accidental, despite the ongoing trial.
Darlington: Scarlett Vickers tragically collapsed at home after suffering a stab wound that pierced her lung and heart. It was a devastating scene.
Her father, Simon Vickers, was arrested and charged with her murder when paramedics couldn’t save her. Sadly, she died right there.
Scarlett’s mum, Sarah Hall, spoke in court about how close their family was. She insisted there was never any trouble between Simon and Scarlett.
Sarah firmly believes the stabbing was an accident. She described Simon as a loving dad who was always hands-on with Scarlett.
During the trial, she shared that Simon was in good spirits that night, chatting about their upcoming holiday while Scarlett was excited.
When asked about any conflict, Sarah said they were just having fun. Then, out of nowhere, Scarlett said “ow,” and that’s when Sarah noticed the blood.
In a panic, she tried to stop the bleeding with a tea towel. It was a chaotic moment, and she felt helpless.
When questioned if she thought Simon could hurt Scarlett, Sarah said it never crossed her mind. She was sure he would never harm their daughter.
After her arrest, she clarified she wasn’t trying to protect Simon. She reiterated it was an accident and that Scarlett was her best friend.
Sarah described the atmosphere at home that night. Simon had a couple of glasses of wine but was not aggressive at all.
They had even shared a joint earlier that day, but Sarah felt Simon was fine to look after Scarlett.
Under cross-examination, she mentioned she didn’t see how Scarlett got hurt but thought something might have been thrown. Still, she stood by her belief that Simon would never intentionally hurt her.
Earlier in the trial, it was revealed that Scarlett died from a single stab wound. Simon has denied deliberately harming her and has been unable to attend her funeral.
He’s currently facing charges for her murder, and the trial is still ongoing.
