Cops and addiction teams are joining forces in Darwen to tackle anti-social behavior and keep the community safe during nights out
The good news? This initiative is sticking around for 2023. The goal is to tackle issues like spiking, drinking safety, and even safer sex. They’re also promoting the ‘Ask for Angela’ scheme, which helps anyone feeling vulnerable while out.
They want to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, break down stigma, and encourage people to reach out for help through Spark. Joanna Clarke, the service manager, shared that they’re working closely with local partners to keep everyone safe.
She mentioned how great it is to see the community getting involved and learning about the risks of spiking. People are starting to seek support beyond just their nights out, which is a positive sign.
Spark even has a special van that acts as a safe space, offering advice and education on staying safe during nights out. They provide dedicated support for both adults and kids, working alongside Blackburn with Darwen Council from their base in Blackburn town centre.
