A listing error has caused confusion over the sale of RAF Yatesbury, with the owner still weighing his options for the historic site
Calne: So, there’s been a bit of a mix-up with the old RAF Yatesbury site. It popped up on a property site for £1.8 million, but turns out it was all a mistake. The estate agent, Landmark Auctions, said it was just a “data error.”
The owner, Jamal Khanfer, was chatting with them about possibly selling it soon, but right now, it’s not actually for sale. He’s still figuring out what to do with the place.
Jamal’s got a lot on his plate. He’s been thinking about whether to keep the site or let it go. He mentioned that the site means a lot to him, and he’s really torn about it.
He had plans to turn part of the airfield into housing, but those fell through earlier this year. It’s been a tough road for him, with several attempts to redevelop the site not working out.
Jamal’s been putting in a lot of effort to preserve the base, but he’s also lost a chunk of his own money—around £1.5 million—without much to show for it. He’s feeling the pressure from the council, too, which hasn’t made things easy.
He’s now looking at different options, including possibly teaming up with someone or selling the land. After talking with him, the auction founder thinks the site might be back on the market soon.
