B&Q is set to open its fifth store in Worcestershire soon after acquiring five Homebase locations
Worcester: B&Q is gearing up to open its fifth store in Worcestershire, and it could happen in just a few months. Exciting, right?
Earlier this month, B&Q announced it bought five Homebase stores after the latter went into administration. This move saved 3,600 jobs that were at risk.
The stores in Altrincham, Basingstoke, Biggleswade, Leamington Spa, and Worcester were snagged for £2.5 million. Quite a deal!
A B&Q spokesperson mentioned that this acquisition will boost their existing store network. They’re really looking to expand their presence.
Interestingly, B&Q didn’t have a store in the largest city in Worcestershire until now. They already have locations in Evesham, Kidderminster, Malvern, and Redditch.
Good news for the staff at the Elgar Retail Park store in Blackpole! They’ll be transferred to B&Q, keeping their jobs safe.
While they couldn’t say exactly when the Elgar store would close, they expect to have it up and running by the end of the year, possibly even sooner.
The spokesperson added that they aim to open the first of the five new stores this Spring and finish converting all of them by 2025.
B&Q’s CEO, Graham Bell, expressed their commitment to providing home improvers with the options they need. They’re excited to welcome new customers and staff to the B&Q family.
By the way, Homebase stores are being sold off to various businesses, with 70 of them going to The Range. It’s a busy time in retail!
