Oxford: If you’re craving some peace and quiet, these villages are just the ticket. They’re perfect for a little escape from the hustle and bustle.
First up is Minster Lovell. Nestled by the River Windrush, it’s a serene spot just a few miles from Witney. The Old Swan pub is a must-visit, with its cozy atmosphere and great ales. If you fancy staying over, check out Minster Mill, which has a spa and a Michelin Guide restaurant. Plus, Jeremy Clarkson’s new pub, The Farmer’s Dog, is nearby.
Next, we have Kingham, located about four miles from Chipping Norton. This village is set in a lovely valley and boasts charming cottages from the 17th and 18th centuries. Last but not least is Dorchester on Thames. This picturesque village is just three miles from Wallingford and is known for its charming thatched cottages. It’s a great place to relax by the river, and the English Music Festival hosts concerts at Dorchester Abbey. Fun fact: former England footballer Mark Wright was born here!
