The Observatory in Blackburn is a local gem, offering great drinks, live music, and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
Blackburn: The Observatory is a cozy spot on Haslingden Road, right by the Royal Blackburn Hospital. Tom Croft and his partner Mark run the place, and they’ve made it a real community hub.
Tom shared with the Lancashire Telegraph that he took over in June 2018. He’s been at it for nearly seven years now. Originally from Lytham St Annes, he wasn’t too familiar with Blackburn, but the opportunity felt right.
He loves how the pub is split into two areas—one for dining and the other for sports. It’s a great setup! They even snagged Thwaites’ Newcomer of the Year award in 2019, which is pretty impressive.
As for drinks, they’ve got a solid lineup. You can find everything from Carling and Guinness to Tom’s own ale, Max’s Brew, named after his Labrador. There’s also a rotating selection of cask ales to keep things interesting.
Every Friday night, they host live music, and Saturdays are all about karaoke with a DJ. Plus, their massive beer garden can fit 160 people, making it a popular spot in the summer.
The locals love it too! Hospital staff often pop in during their breaks, and there’s a friendly vibe all around. Tom even had a fun moment when someone recognized his dog as the one from the beer at The Observatory!
