A Wrexham-based production company is making waves with its new BBC series, showcasing lost treasures in the Lake District
Wrexham: A new production company called Ty’r Ddraig has just launched and is already making headlines. They’re based in Tŷ Pawb and kicked off their journey in 2023.
Recently, they got a cool gig from BBC Daytime to create a 16-part series called ‘Lost and Found in the Lakes’. It’s all about presenter Helen Skelton and her team searching for lost treasures in the beautiful Lake District.
And guess what? The show is off to a fantastic start! Ty’r Ddraig’s Creative Director, Ben Smith, shared that the first episode pulled in 1.5 million viewers, which is pretty impressive.
Ben, who’s a Wrexham local, has been in the TV game for nearly 25 years. He always dreamed of starting a production company in North Wales to boost the local creative scene. With the buzz around ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, it felt like the perfect time to dive in.
Even though they filmed in the Lake District, they made sure to hire crew members from North Wales. The editing was done at Rondo Media in Caernarfon, keeping it local.
They spent three months filming the series, working with local experts and a small crew. Getting a big commission like this right after launching is a huge win for them.
Cllr Hugh Jones, who oversees Tŷ Pawb, praised Ty’r Ddraig for contributing to Wrexham’s creative community. He’s excited to see what they’ll do next.
