A driver has been jailed after causing a tragic crash that claimed a woman’s life near Swindon, highlighting the dangers of distracted driving.
Swindon: Zak Lacey, a 26-year-old from Chilton Foliat, faced the music in court after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving. This all went down on December 31, 2021, when he lost control of his Audi A4 on the B4192.
He was speeding, going between 67 and 72 mph, and got distracted by a phone call. Unfortunately, he crashed head-on into a Ford Fiesta, killing 32-year-old Jessica Dominy instantly.
After the accident, Lacey was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. It turned out he was driving while tired and on medication that could make him drowsy. Not a good combo at all.
Now, he’s been sentenced to two years in prison and will face a five-year driving ban once he’s out. Plus, he’ll have to pass an extended driving test before he can hit the road again.
Jessica’s family shared their heartbreak, remembering her as a beautiful and caring person who had so much to look forward to. They thanked everyone who tried to help on that tragic day.
Police are hoping this case serves as a wake-up call for drivers. They stressed that distractions, speed, and fatigue can have deadly consequences. It’s a tough reminder that we all need to be careful behind the wheel.
