Emily Butler’s coffee morning aims to raise funds for Shakespeare Hospice in memory of her late father
Alcester: A ten-year-old girl named Emily is hosting a special fundraising event next week to celebrate what would have been her dad’s birthday.
Emily, who lives with her mom Amy, came up with the idea of a coffee morning to raise money for the Shakespeare Hospice. This event is in memory of her dad, Mark Butler, who sadly passed away three years ago.
Amy, who works in the civil service, suggested adding a raffle to the event. They reached out to local businesses for donations, and to their surprise, they received a ton of amazing prizes.
They got everything from a season ticket for Stratford Town FC to tickets for the Women’s Six Nations match. There are also ballet lessons, a round of golf for four, a £150 holiday voucher, and even an air fryer!
Amy and Emily were just blown away by the generosity. Amy said, “It’s all gone a bit bigger than we expected. We can’t believe it, it’s overwhelming.”
Mark, known as ‘Bud’, was a beloved figure in Alcester, especially for his role in the town’s brass band. Unfortunately, his passing was sudden and tragic. Amy shared that Bud seemed happy but was struggling with his mental health, which they didn’t realize until it was too late.
He was only 41 when he died. Since then, both Emily and Amy have found support from the Shakespeare Hospice.
The coffee morning is set for January 25th at the Alcester Baptist Church from 11 am to 2 pm. Raffle tickets are just £5 a strip, so it’s a great way to support a good cause while having some fun!
