Durham: So, the Subway store at Dalton Park is all set to keep its doors open. The Durham County Council just approved a planning application that lets them continue trading without any hiccups.

This application was put in by Patron Dalton Park Outlet Ltd. It was all about confirming that the store could operate under Use Class E, which is great because it means they can sell whatever they want.

Subway has been in that spot since July 29, 2008, and now they can keep going strong. Before this, there was a planning condition from 2002 that limited what they could sell, mostly to factory seconds and clearance items, and it even restricted food sales.

But Subway has been serving food there all along, even though they were technically breaking that old rule. They showed the council proof of their operation, like turnover figures and electricity usage, which helped make their case.

The council looked over everything and found the evidence solid. They even checked things out with Google Street View and site visits, and nobody raised any objections during the notice period.

So, the council’s decision on January 17, 2025, means Subway can keep doing what it does best—serving up those tasty subs without any restrictions. Just a heads up, this approval only applies to Unit 86 and doesn’t cover other parts of Dalton Park.

Subway Realty Limited has held the lease since 2008, and their sales figures from then until now show they’ve been busy. Plus, the electricity records back that up, showing they’ve been active all these years.
