Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts condemns Welsh Labour’s abstention on the WASPI Compensation Bill, calling it disgraceful.
Dwyfor Meirionnydd: Liz Saville Roberts, the local MP, is upset. She criticized Welsh Labour MPs for not voting on the WASPI Compensation Bill. This bill aims to help women affected by pension age changes.
She called their decision to abstain “disgraceful.” Only one Welsh Labour MP, Steve Witherden, supported the bill. The rest chose not to vote.
Roberts pointed out that senior Welsh Labour members had previously backed the WASPI campaign. This includes First Minister Eluned Morgan and Jo Stevens, the Secretary of State for Wales.
She emphasized that these women have been let down repeatedly. Roberts believes that Welsh Labour’s inaction is a betrayal of their promises.
She stated, “Plaid Cymru stands firmly with WASPI women.” This issue is about fairness and trust, not just party politics. Women deserve compensation, not empty promises.
