A planning meeting in East Lothian faced major disruptions due to a web failure, forcing councillors to abandon their online session.
They tried for over an hour to fix the issue but eventually had to call it quits. They told everyone that the meeting would continue in the council chambers only.
The live webcast is important because it lets the public see what decisions are being made and keeps a record for later. Unfortunately, they had to abandon it due to some technical hiccups on Tuesday morning. The decisions were later shared via email.
One of the big decisions was about an old bird hide at Kilspindie Golf Course. They decided not to allow it to be turned into a holiday let. There were concerns about safety since the front door would open right into the path of golf balls.
On the flip side, they did approve a new dog park at Meadowmill, but it wasn’t without some pushback. The applicant, Margaret Firth, wanted to convert some agricultural land into three fenced fields for dogs.
While some folks were all for it, others raised issues about safety on the access road and potential noise. They even worried about dog waste being collected near their homes.
Despite the objections, planning officers thought it was a good idea and recommended approval. The councillors agreed but only gave a one-year consent to start.
So, it was a mixed bag for the council this week, with some wins and some losses. Just another day in local politics!
