I feel deeply for Calum’s family and friends. New Cumnock residents are also in my thoughts. Many essential workers helped during the big storm. This includes emergency services and health workers.

Volunteers across Ayrshire helped a lot too. They made warm spaces and provided power access. They did all they could to help their communities.

Ayrshire and Scotland help each other when needed, and my staff and I helped people without power. We worked with SP Energy Networks for updates. Many areas lacked electricity post-storm.

Engineers fixed damage equal to 100 days of faults, and they did this in less than three days! Check if you can get storm compensation now. SP Energy Networks will pay automatic compensation if you lacked power for over 48 hours.

They will contact you promptly about this. You can claim back accommodation and food costs if you paid during the power outage. Remember to keep all your receipts, though. Visit their website to get more details.

Vulnerable people should join the Priority Service Register. Being on it means they’ll contact you and offer support during power cuts. Sign up on the SP Energy website for that.

Thanks again to everyone for being resilient. Your support makes our community strong.
