Keith: A motorcyclist from Elgin has been banned from the roads. He crashed into a car and seriously injured himself.

On June 5 last year, Nickolas Johnston collided with a Mini Cooper. The crash happened on the A95 between Keith and Mulben.

At Elgin Sheriff Court, it was revealed that Johnston was overtaking near a blind summit. He couldn’t avoid the oncoming car and got pinned between it and his bike.

A campervan driver saw Johnston lying in the road, about 100 feet from his motorcycle. He had broken his foot and damaged tendons in the accident.

Johnston will need physiotherapy for at least two years. His lawyer mentioned he was thankful the other driver wasn’t hurt.

Since the crash, Johnston has been troubled by memories of the incident. He has even quit his job as a chef.

Johnston, living on Shaw Place in Elgin, pleaded guilty to causing the accident. Sheriff Philip Mann fined him £640 and banned him for 16 months.

He must also pass an extended driving test to regain his license.
