Daniel Bryan, 30, from Eltham, received a six and a half year prison sentence for concealing a modified, prohibited gun in his sock.
Patrols noticed a car near Brixton. It seemed suspicious. It traveled toward Kent early July 30, 2024. They tracked it to Ashford Road in Maidstone.
Police detained two people, one of whom was Bryan. Officers searched him and found a possible gun in his sock, under his jogging bottoms.
They seized the weapon, and Bryan was arrested. Tests later showed it to be a modified starter pistol capable of firing real bullets.
Bryan was charged with possessing a prohibited firearm. He pleaded not guilty, but Maidstone Crown Court tried and found him guilty. Bryan received six and a half years in prison.
Detective Constable Stuart Drakeley spoke about the case, stating that Bryan had turned the starter pistol into a dangerous weapon. He emphasized that the gun could have killed someone.
Bryan had no legal reason for possessing the gun when he was stopped by police. Drakeley asserted that jail is the right place for him, emphasizing that Kent does not want illegal guns and that police will continue targeting lawbreakers.
People with illegal guns face long prison terms.
