Ashford: A gas leak has caused quite a stir on Elwick Road. SGN workers have shut down part of the road for urgent repairs.

The westbound lane is closed from County Square to The Bolt roundabout. Drivers heading that way will need to find another route for a while.

While some traffic can still get through from the other direction, it’s a bit of a mess. SGN isn’t sure how long the repairs will take, but they’re saying it could be closed until January 29.

Dan Brown from SGN mentioned they’ve fixed one pipe but are still looking into another leak near the junction with Godinton Road. For safety reasons, they had to close the road in one direction.

A diversion is set up, so drivers can take the A2042 Station Road and other routes to get around the closure. It’s been a hassle for many, with some drivers turning around at the signs.

SGN has been working on gas repairs in the area since before Christmas, and those temporary traffic lights have been a real headache for everyone.
