Essex Police receives £100 million in funding to tackle budget shortfalls and enhance community safety
Essex: The police in Essex are getting a £100 million funding boost. This comes after concerns about financial pressures on police forces. Hirst, the joint national finance lead, appreciates the Government’s response to these issues.
He mentioned, “We’ve lobbied hard for this funding. The recent decision caused concern, but it led to change.” Hirst acknowledged the tough days that followed the announcement and its impact on people’s lives.
The extra funding will help cover a £5.3 million budget shortfall for Essex Police. This means officers can work more effectively to reduce crime and improve safety in the community.
Hirst said, “We shared our budget details with the Home Office, which led to tough choices.” He also thanked Essex Labour MPs for their efforts in securing more funding for policing.
Concerns about job losses, especially for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), were also addressed. Hirst noted, “Letting go of hard-working staff was a tough decision.” He aims to maintain the progress made since 2016.
With the new funding, Essex Police will revise its budget plans for the 2025/26 financial year. Hirst’s goal is to reduce crime and ensure a visible police presence in Essex.
He is committed to cutting crime by 40% during his term, as stated in the Police and Crime Plan 2024-2028. “This support will help us reach that goal,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Hirst is dedicated to working with everyone in Essex and nationally to secure the resources needed for Essex Police.
