Jimmy Collier, accused of murdering his father, faced court proceedings in Essex, with a trial date set for later this year
Witham: Emergency services rushed to Philip Road after a man was found with a head injury. Sadly, he didn’t make it and was later identified as Thomas Collier, 79.
Police quickly arrested his son, 41-year-old Jimmy Collier, who lived on the same street. He’s been charged with his father’s murder.
In court, Jimmy appeared via video link, wearing a grey jumper. His lawyer mentioned the family ties and hinted at a future bail application.
The judge denied bail for now, keeping Jimmy in custody until his next hearing on February 24. A trial is tentatively set for July 28.
Essex Police are still investigating and have promised to keep a strong presence in the area. They’re asking everyone to avoid jumping to conclusions while the case unfolds.
Detective Inspector Richard Canning emphasized that the family is at the center of their investigation and reassured the community that there’s no ongoing threat.
