Residents of Chepstow are weighing in on plans for a new McDonald’s, with excitement and concerns about traffic safety
Right now, the nearest McDonald’s is at Magor Services, so folks are eager for a closer option. But not everyone is on board. There’s an underpass that connects Bulwark to the proposed site, and while it makes the restaurant accessible, locals aren’t thrilled about the safety of that route.
At a recent drop-in event, many residents expressed their support for the new McDonald’s but raised concerns about traffic and road safety. Plus, there are plans for a KFC and a petrol station nearby, which adds to the traffic worries.
Chepstow Town Council has already flagged the underpass as a potential safety issue for pedestrians. A McDonald’s spokesperson reached out, saying they want to hear from the community to show the council there’s local support for the restaurant.
If everything goes through, the new McDonald’s will have a drive-thru, 45 parking spaces, and even some electric vehicle charging points. Philip Isherwood, a senior acquisitions surveyor, is excited about the project, saying it could really boost food options and create jobs in Chepstow.
They’re keen to engage with the community before submitting their planning application, so if you want to share your thoughts, they’re all ears!
