Leeds: Bramley Baths is on a mission to raise £350,000 to fix its roof and make it more energy-efficient. They’ve got until the end of February to hit that target.
Instead of the usual fundraising methods, they’re trying something new. The Baths are launching their first community share offer, which means the community can actually own a piece of this historic spot.
So far, they’ve had a great response with 256 investors stepping up. That includes £87,625 from local supporters and a solid £140,000 in match funding from ethical investors.
But they still need to raise £122,375 by February 28. Jennie Willetts, the business development manager, is thrilled with the community’s support but knows they need one last push to reach their goal.
David Wilford, the CEO, mentioned that this community shares model is a game-changer for funding big projects. People can invest as little as £50 and not only own a part of Bramley’s history but also help make it more sustainable.
A spokesperson from Co-operatives UK shared their excitement about investing £40,000 from their Community Shares Booster Fund. To unlock that, Bramley Baths needs to raise £310,000 from community investors.
They’re impressed with the plans to modernize the building while keeping it accessible for everyone. Bramley Baths has been around since 1904, and they’re determined to keep it thriving.
