Elizabeth and Vince celebrate their 70th anniversary, sharing secrets of a long-lasting marriage filled with love and laughter.
Buckley: Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Hird and Eric ‘Vince’ Vincent are over the moon as they celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. Can you believe it’s been seven decades since they said “I do”? What a milestone!
Betty, who hails from Pontblyddyn, met Vince through his sister, Hilda, while they both worked at Airbus. Their first meeting was at the Albert Hall in Buckley back in 1953, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
They tied the knot on January 15, 1955, at Pontblyddyn Church, surrounded by family and friends. At that time, Vince was a gardener, but he later worked at John Summers. Betty spent her career as a pastry chef at Airbus, and after a bit of a shake-up, Vince wrapped up his career there too.
The couple is blessed with five children, 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and a whopping 17 great-grandchildren. They’re so proud of their big family!
Even though Vince is living with dementia now, he still has that wonderful sense of humor. When asked about the secret to a long marriage, he quipped, “I learned to keep my tongue still.” Classic Vince!
Betty chimed in with her own wisdom, saying, “The secret is to always keep trying and don’t give up on one another.” It’s clear they’ve put in the work to make their relationship thrive.
For their special day, they celebrated at home in Buckley, surrounded by loved ones. Here’s to many more happy years together!
