Armagh: A local resident is worried about fly tipping at the old Stewart’s Clock Factory. This dumping has happened often at the site, especially at the entrance gates.

The resident feels this issue is a health risk. He mentioned that black bin bags are scattered around the area, with some near charity clothing banks.

On a recent visit, we saw bottles and food packaging spilling from the bags. The resident fears this could attract vermin to the site.

Over the past year, he has seen many items dumped, including mattresses and bikes. He wonders why people don’t use the nearby recycling facility.

There are signs warning about CCTV in the area to prevent environmental crime. These signs also mention penalties for littering and dumping.

Thanks to these efforts, the council has identified some offenders and issued fines. A council spokesperson confirmed that fly tipping is a big problem here.

They reported nine incidents in the past year, ranging from black bags to a van load of rubbish. Four offenders received Fixed Penalty Notices.

In November 2024, new signs were put up to remind people of the penalties for illegal dumping. The council is also looking for the landowner to remove clothing banks.

Residents are encouraged to report any information about offenders to the Environmental Health Department. They can call or use the ABC Council app to report anonymously.
