Great news for locals as Folkestone Sports Centre will reopen soon, following a successful bid accepted by administrators
Folkestone: So, guess what? The Folkestone Sports Centre is making a comeback! It closed down last year, and folks were pretty bummed about it. But now, it looks like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Administrators have accepted a bid, and the local MP is over the moon about it. He called it “absolutely brilliant news.” Can you imagine? A place that’s been part of the community for ages is set to reopen its doors.
The centre shut down in July, which was a real blow. It meant 144 people lost their jobs, and there were worries it might be turned into houses. But thankfully, that’s not happening now.
We don’t know who the new owners are just yet, as they’re still sorting out the legal stuff. But the good news is that all the bidders wanted to reopen the centre, so it’s looking promising.
This place has everything—swimming pools, gyms, tennis courts, and even a dry ski slope! It’s been a go-to spot for generations, and its sudden closure felt like a huge loss for everyone.
There was even a petition to save it, and it got nearly 9,000 signatures! That’s how much people care about this place. The MP, Tony Vaughan, can’t wait to see it open again, and neither can the rest of the community.
He’s relieved that it won’t be turned into housing, which was a real fear. The council has also stepped in to protect the site as a community asset, which is a smart move.
So, fingers crossed! We’ll be hearing more about the new owners soon, and hopefully, we’ll see the sports centre buzzing with activity again.
