A white Ford Transit van was seized in Amesbury after being caught on CCTV fly-tipping waste in Bulford, highlighting ongoing environmental efforts.
Amesbury: So, there was this white Ford Transit van that got seized recently. It was caught on CCTV dumping commercial waste in Bulford. Not cool, right?
This all went down thanks to a joint effort between Wiltshire Council and the police. They’re really cracking down on fly-tipping, which is a big problem around here.
Under some laws from the late ’80s and early ’90s, councils can take vehicles involved in environmental crimes. If they think a vehicle is being used for fly-tipping, they can seize it. Pretty serious stuff!
Once they take a vehicle, they can hold it for up to 15 days while they investigate. If things go to court, the vehicle might be kept even longer until a judge decides what happens next.
If the owner is found guilty, the van could end up being crushed or sold. Yikes! Councillor Nick Holder mentioned how important it is to tackle fly-tipping and thanked the police for their help.
He said they’re determined to get rid of this issue in Wiltshire. It’s not just illegal; it really messes up the community. They’re serious about using their powers to seize vehicles involved in this kind of crime.
Inspector Andy Lemon from the rural crime team added that they’re working hard with the council to prevent fly-tipping. It’s a big priority for them, and they know how much it affects local areas.
