A former London celebrity hotspot will transform into a clay pigeon shooting venue
London: A former hotel, once home to the Titanic restaurant, is changing. It will become a clay pigeon shooting experience. This spot is located at 77 Brewer Street, near Piccadilly Circus.
Developers want to create a restaurant and a social space. Customers will use real deactivated shotguns to shoot at virtual targets. The venue will take over a large underground area next to Brasserie Zedel.
The Titanic restaurant was popular from 2008 to 2002. It was a celebrity hangout, attracting stars like Noel Gallagher and the Spice Girls. Most recently, it was the Batman-themed restaurant Park Row, which closed last year.
The Soho Society has raised concerns about the new plans. They worry about too many bars and leisure spots in the area. They also mentioned potential public health and safety issues.
The Metropolitan Police initially had concerns about firearms at the site. This area has high crime rates, and they worry about organized crime targeting tourists. However, the applicant has assured them that the weapons are safe.
They provided details on how the guns are stored and decommissioned. The police are satisfied that the guns pose no risk to the public. The applicant has also fitted tracking devices to the equipment.
Clays, which runs similar experiences in Canary Wharf, received a premise license last year. Councillors will decide on the planning permission for this site soon.
